Getting Started

I have been mulling over the idea of starting a blog, mostly as a way for us to stay in touch with everyone while we are half the world away. So here is the start. As everyone reading this might already know we are counting down to our big move to Korea. Mike left in January and we have been waiting for notification for the kids and I to join him. We received that notification about 3 weeks ago and our flight is scheduled to leave the United States June 28th. So we begin the countdown.....

Just to catch you all up, When mike arrived in January, he spent a few nights in the Dragon Hill Lodge on post and then was given a list of real estate agents to find himself a place to live. He found an apartment in Seoul within a short distance of post. This is how Mike describes it, "The Villa is around 1200 sq ft with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a smallish kitchen (but more navigable than the one in your parent's appartment), and the family room is fairly large.  It is pretty well furnished but we may need more storage devices for if/ when you all get here.  The streets are a maze off of the main strip but they all lead to the main road eventually, the first few days of walking back and forth will be interesting" Here are some pictures of his apartment...

I also should menchion that this "villa" is on a hill and Mike bought a bicycle to get back and forth to work on.

We are hoping that the housing department will have a place for us to live on post once we get there. We are currently number 4 on the list and should have a house sometime in June or July. When we get there I will be sure to post pictures of that. Mike is also in the process of buying a car for our use over there. I sold both of our cars here in the US. We decided it wasn't worth the cost of maintenance and insurance plus vehicle depreciation to keep our Saturn Vue.

The only other major hurdle is what to do with the dogs.... I currently have a couple back up plans in place but our main goal is to get them into a foster home somewhere here in Massachusetts. I have been in contact with NetPets Military Foster program and am waiting for a list of possible homes. I am very hopeful all this will work out.

This weekend the kids and I will be traveling to the Buffalo area for a final visit with family and friends (plus a few doctors appointments).  I will probably post after our trip with more pictures. And by that time it will really be crunch time. I have already been packing and shipping some of our excess stuff to Mike. So far I have sent him 8 priority mail boxes full of stuff and one box parcel post. We have collected a lot of stuff in our 6 months in the states without him!

Mike will be coming back to get us June 23rd and we will all leave together June 28th. That's 35 days from today!!! Hope you enjoy following us as we go on Our World of Adventure!!!!!
