Familar Faces in Strange New Places

Within the first few days of arrival there are several things you must do. So we got up and headed to post. We decided to get some food since we had absolutely nothing here in the apartment. Then we walked over to the PX to pick up some snacks and stuff but they wouldn't let me in! So I knew I need a ration card, it said so in "The Seoul Survivor" but Mike insisted we could get in with his ID. So after being denied entrance we decided to go get me a ration card. Well before you can get a ration card you have to be in the DBIDS system (whatever that is). So I did that but then you have to wait 4 hours to get a ration card even though the offices are right around the corner from each other. So we hiked the kids down another block to try and get our SOFA stamps (not sure why ya need this either but ya do). Well we waited and didn't have all the paper work we needed. So two failures later we decided to call the Cranes to see where they were. They weren't in so we decided to let Giulianna blow off some steam on the playground at the Dragon Hill Lodge. Of course Rhyon wanted to play to which ended up in two wet children (it rains a lot since its monsoon season). We tried calling the Cranes again and this time they were in so we went up and hung out for a bit. The girls were very happy to see each other.

After a little while Mike went out and got my ration card and signed back in from leave. It was then getting pretty close to dinner time and we had two very jet lag tired kids so we left and did our run to the PX and Commissary for some basic provisions. By the time we got "home" we were all very tired. I did manage to take some pictures of the area on the way home and some of the magnificent view from the apartment. Enjoy!
Great view of Seoul Tower from our apartment, when its blue it means the air quality is as good as it gets.
City view from one side of apartment.
Most signs have some English so we really don't need to learn to read Korean.
The Subway
These are everywhere! And despite the name are all Korean food.
